Gum Disease Therapy
Dr. Shah – your Langley dentist -treats gum disease caused by bacterial and tartar build-up under the gum line.
Gum Disease, also known as Periodontal Disease, is an inflammation of the gums that is caused by bacterial and tartar build-up on our teeth and under the gum line. Tartar forms over time when bacterial and plaque build-ups are not cleaned off and harden on our teeth. The severity of the disease may vary depending on the amount of plaque accumulation.
The early stage of the disease is called Gingivitis and is very common. It is usually defined by:
- mild gum irritation.
- minor bleeding during regular brushing and flossing.
- occasional bad breath.
If you’re experiencing any of the above-mentioned discomforts or noticing any unusual signs, call us to book an appointment with Dr. Snehal Shah at 604.539.0211 or use the online form below to request an appointment!
Gingivitis can be controlled and treated with regular brushing and flossing, and routine dental cleanings by our professional dental hygienists at Jericho Dental. If left untreated, the minor gum inflammation will worsen and the disease will get into the more serious stage, called Periodontitis. Dental pockets form, where the gum separates from the teeth, often causing it to be noticeably receded, swollen, red, and tender. Bone loss may occur and if left to advance bone destruction continues and the tooth will loosen to the point of falling out or requiring extraction. Signs for periodontitis include:
- Gums that bleed easily.
- Tender, sensitive, swollen, red, and painful to touch gums.
- Receding gums.
- Loose teeth (in adults).
- Unusually long teeth (due to receded gum).
- Frequent or continuous bad breath.
- Overall discomfort in the mouth.
