When Does Coverage Actually Start?

Applying for the plan does not mean you are covered immediately. Your coverage only begins on your Benefit Effective Date.

  • Where to find it: This date is clearly listed on the Determination Letter found in your My Service Canada Account (MSCA) or the printed letter included in your Sun Life welcome package.

  • The “Gap” Warning: Any dental work performed before your Benefit Effective Date will not be covered or reimbursed by the CDCP.

How to Use Benefits Before Your Card Arrives

You do not need to wait for your physical plastic card to arrive in the mail (which can take 3 weeks to 30 days) to book an appointment. As long as your Benefit Effective Date has passed, you can access care by providing the following to our office:

  1. Your Member ID Number: Found digitally in your My Service Canada Account (MSCA) about 1-2 weeks after approval.

  2. The CDCP Plan Number: 333333 (this is universal for all members).

  3. Government Photo ID: To verify your identity at check-in.
